Roland Velich has been owner, estate manager, and winemaker of Weingut Moric since 2001. That continuity matters in winegrowing: long tenure gives a maker time to compare seasons, parcels, and vine response, then adjust with restraint. Coming from a winemaking family, he has carried that inheritance forward as a working discipline, built through repeated observation and refinement rather than fixed formula.

The Work Today

At Weingut Moric in Großhöflein, Roland Velich keeps the focus on clarity and site expression. The aim is not to smooth over origin, but to leave it legible in the glass. His wines are shaped around the details that separate one parcel from another: the grain of the soil, the way a site comes through the grape, and the balance between ripeness and restraint. Blaufränkisch sits at the center of that method, and it is through this variety that his thinking is most plainly read.

Signature

Roland Velich's signature wines include Moric Blaufränkisch Reserve, Blaufränkisch Neckenmarkter Alte Reben, Lutzmannsburg Alte Reben, Ried Meissner, and Blaufränkisch Jagini. Together they show the span of his work without changing the underlying brief: keep Blaufränkisch at the center, and let vineyard origin remain visible. Each bottle sits within the same field of practice, but with a different parcel speaking through it.
