The Path
Training at Rhode Island School of Design shows up in the way Shannon Mustipher approaches drinks: composition, balance, color, form, and a tight control of detail. That design background carried into the bar world, where she applied a visual sensibility to work that still has to hold up on flavor and structure. From 2014, as beverage director at Gladys Caribbean in Brooklyn, NY, Shannon Mustipher worked where hospitality and technique meet, building drinks with intent. Today, as founder of Women Who Tiki, a spirits educator, and a beverage consultant, Shannon Mustipher extends that work into teaching and advising, with an emphasis on how drinks are understood, discussed, and passed along.
The Work Today
Rum and cane spirits sit at the center of Shannon Mustipher’s practice. That category asks for attention to ingredient character, historical context, and the way a drink carries meaning beyond the glass. Shannon Mustipher keeps both flavor and provenance in view, so the drink can read clearly on its own while still pointing back to where it comes from. That is the shape of the work: direct, specific, and grounded in context.
Signature
Tiki: Modern Tropical Cocktails is Shannon Mustipher’s signature title. The book brings a modern lens to a genre often defined by presentation, while keeping the emphasis on structure and ingredients. Shannon Mustipher treats the form with discipline, using a clear editorial eye to shape how the drinks are read and made.
In Their Words “I was hooked by the magic that exceptional service can bring about.” “This book is about flavor and ingredients first.” Those lines map the range of Shannon Mustipher’s standards. Service matters, but so does the drink itself: what is in it, how it tastes, and what it communicates through ingredient choice. Shannon Mustipher’s work holds both ends at once, with hospitality in one hand and flavor in the other.
