i. Biography
Silvia Philion co-founded Mezcaloteca in Oaxaca de Juárez in 2010 with Marco Ochoa, an appointment-only tasting room and reference library for traditional agave distillates, whose own site describes the project as created "con la intención de educar paladares en torno a mezcales tradicionales. In 2015 the pair added Mezcalosfera by Mezcaloteca to export small batches, and they work from a distillery in Miahuatlán, Oaxaca alongside individual maestros mezcaleros using their own recipes. She sources from maestras mezcaleras as well as maestros.
