Economic training at the University of Paris gave Stéphane Vedeau an early sense of structure: systems, exchange, and how to read a field before moving through it. Before wine took over, soccer set a different kind of discipline, one based on pace, response, and repetition under pressure. Sales at wine world (1987–1989) then brought him closer to the trade’s practical side, where the work is as much about circulation and relationships as it is about product. The shift from buyer-side knowledge to production came in 1992, when Stéphane Vedeau became vinifier and co-founder at Maison Maurel Vedeau in Languedoc-Roussillon, a role he held until 2000. That title placed him in the core of the work: making wine while helping define the structure of the house around it. The sequence matters. Athlete, economist, salesperson, vinifier—each step added a working layer to a career built through adjustment and responsibility. Since 2000, Stéphane Vedeau has extended that base through founding and ownership roles that keep him close to both craft and decision-making. He is founder of La Ferme du Mont and founder of J Boutin, and he has also been owner of Clos Bellane since 2010 and owner of Val des Rois since 2020. Accumulation rather than reinvention: more estates, more responsibility, and a continued hand in the practical direction of production.
