The house traces its founding to 1959, when De Pra set out to build a family winery with a longer horizon than a single working life. The method he is known for is plain and difficult to outsource: grow the vineyards, choose the best grapes, and let quality begin before fermentation. Cantina De Pra still reads as a family cellar rather than a constructed destination. Its roots sit in the Marca Trevigiana, with vineyards around Ormelle, Motta di Livenza, and other nearby sites feeding a production cellar in the Province of Treviso. That closeness matters. It keeps the maker’s decisions near the rows, near the harvest, and near the bottle.

Steel, cement, and the Veneto range

The cellar has moved the long way, from a simple room with two barrels to cement tanks, then to refrigerated steel tanks and modern pressing centrifugal machines. Those changes did not erase the original gesture; they gave the family more control over fruit that already had a point of view. The wine program crosses Prosecco DOC Treviso, Malanotte del Piave DOCG, and Trevenezie IGT, so the work here is not held to one register. Brut Prosecco asks for lift and clarity. Pinot Grigio and Pinot Nero put the house into quieter, varietal focus. La Seve, Piave Malanotte Docg, and Rosso '59 Trevenezie IGT carry the cellar toward wines with more weight and local memory. The production philosophy is conventional, but the attention is not abstract. Flat alluvial soil in the Marca Trevigiana gives the vineyards their base note, and De Pra’s craft begins with keeping that note legible.

A quiet cellar in Ormelle

The room around the work is quiet, more production cellar than performance stage, and that restraint shapes how the visit unfolds. Guided tastings lead visitors back through the vineyards rather than away from them, keeping attention on the ground behind the wines, and the counter has the character of direct sale: bottles close to the hands that made them, labels tied to places the family can still walk. In the cellar, steel and cement speak to different moments in the house’s evolution, not as display, but as working evidence. In the tasting room, the range does the same work in glass, moving patiently from one expression to the next. There is sparkling wine, still white, still red, and the heavier pull of Piave.
