Alexander McDonald then moved through Caol Ila and Lagavulin as a distiller, building experience inside Islay’s whisky network one post at a time. Trained at the Institute of Brewing & Distilling, he came up through roles that require consistency, observation and familiarity with place. That route led to the Port Ellen restoration project, where McDonald took on a leader role at a site carrying heavy expectation and memory.
