André Soltner

André Soltner was a French-born chef from Alsace who became closely identified with New York’s Lutèce, where he served as chef from its 1961 opening and later became partner and owner before selling the restaurant in 1994. Born in Thann on November 20, 1932, he began cooking as a teenager, trained in France and Switzerland, and later helped make Lutèce one of New York’s defining classic French restaurants. After leaving Lutèce, he served as dean of classic studies at the French Culinary Institute in Manhattan, mentoring younger chefs.
