i. Biography
Angus Vinden’s path to wine has been anything but accidental. With an architecture degree and training at University and TAFE, he returned to the family property with a maker’s eye and a steady sense of structure, then spent 2014 to 2015 managing the estate and growing it into something special at Vinden Wines in Pokolbin, Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia. That formative period set the tone for what followed: a career rooted in place, shaped by hands-on work, and driven by a clear idea of what wine can be when it is both precise and alive.
The Path
Angus Vinden trained at University and TAFE before returning to the family property, where he managed it and grew it into something special at Vinden Wines in Pokolbin, Hunter Valley (2014–2015). Those years were a bridge between study and practice, between the logic of design and the slower, seasonal rhythm of viticulture. Since 2015, Angus has been winemaker and viticulturist of Vinden Wines (since 2015), and owner/winemaker of Vinden Estate Wines (since 2015), continuing to shape the family story with a balance of discipline and intuition.
The Work Today
Since 2015, he has worked as winemaker and viticulturist at Vinden Wines in Pokolbin, Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia. In that role, the work is as much about looking after the vineyard as it is about the finished wine: the patient attention to the growing season, the decisions made in the winery, and the satisfaction of seeing each vintage emerge with its own character. Angus describes it simply, but with unmistakable commitment: “I love making wine and looking after my vineyard.”
Signature
Angus's signature dishes include Vinden Wines, The Vinden Headcase, Lignée, 87 Block Single Barrel Chardonnay, and 2019 'Lignée' Shiraz Pinot Noir. Together, these names suggest a winemaking style that values personality and distinction, with bottlings that are crafted to be memorable not only for what they are, but for the sense of place and intent they carry. The goal, he has said, was “to create great wines, which are as fun and distinctive to drink, as they were to make.”
In Their Words “ The goal was to create great wines, which are as fun and distinctive to drink, as they were to make.” “For me it is a lifestyle that is like no other; there is nothing else I would rather be doing.”
