Berta Vásquez

Berta Vásquez is a maestra mezcalera in San Baltazar Chichicapam, Oaxaca, running her own small palenque, still rare for a woman in mezcal. Her own site states she is "una Maestra Mezcalera" who distils from a range of regional agave varieties and their ensambles, and that commercial brands contract her to produce for national and international markets; Mezcales La Medida is named as one client, and Rezpiral and Agua del Sol bottle her destilados. She came to the still after learning from her grandparents, brother, father and husband.
