A horticulturist’s eye for growth, timing, and site discipline shaped Brett Sharpe’s early work in wine. From there, the move into wine was steady rather than abrupt, and Brett is winemaker of Lindeman's (since 1998), where that long view has been put into daily use.

The Work Today

Balance and structure sit at the centre of Brett’s work at Lindeman's. The method is less about forcing a result than understanding how separate elements behave, then bringing them together with care. That calls for restraint, exactness, and a clear read on what each component contributes once assembled. In a house with a long memory, the task is to keep the wine coherent without sanding away its differences, and Brett’s practice is built around that discipline.

Signature

Brett's signature wines include 1976 Lindeman’s Limestone Ridge Shiraz Cabernet, Limestone Ridge Vineyard Shiraz Cabernet, St George Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pyrus Cabernet blend. Taken together, they sketch the range of his work and the continuity of his association with Lindeman's. The list carries its own plain evidence of style and intent: each wine a separate expression, each one part of the standard he has helped maintain over time.

In Their Words “Taking two or more parts, assessing their individual characters and combining them with elements that are complementary has always been an important part of the winemaking process.” The line is practical rather than poetic, and that is what gives it weight. For Brett, the work begins with discernment and ends with coherence. “The wines that we make here are world class, and it’s the place where I’ve had my family. It’s home.”
