i. Biography
British bartender Charlotte Voisey came into the trade with management studies from the University of Brighton, but the work itself arrived at bar speed. In 1996, she stepped behind the bar at The Chicago Rib Shack, a first posting that set the terms of a career built around service, timing, and the pressure of the room. From there, Apartment 195 in London gave that work a different frame: not just a station to work from, but a place where bar craft, attention, and ambition could be tested in public. The arc from those early shifts led into spirits leadership and, later, into the senior roles that now define her standing in the trade.
The Path
Management study at the University of Brighton gave Charlotte Voisey a formal base, but bartending at Apartment 195 in London sharpened the practical side of the trade. The bar is where service, drinks culture, and decision-making meet, and her career has consistently lived in that overlap. That is what marks her out as both practitioner and leader: someone grounded in the physical work of the bar, while also operating with an eye on the larger systems that support it. That larger reach became especially clear when Voisey served as Overall Chair of the Spirited Awards at Tales of the Cocktail Foundation from 2016–2024. The role sits at the junction of hospitality and industry structure, where recognition is not separate from craft but part of how the field defines itself. She now holds a pair of prominent positions: head of ambassadors of William Grant & Sons USA and Executive Director of Tales of the Cocktail Foundation. Together, they describe a career that extends beyond service without leaving it behind.
The Work Today
Today, Charlotte serves as Head of Ambassadors at William Grant & Sons USA, a role centered on representation, communication, and brand presence. The work also leaves room for cocktails themselves: Voisey creates cocktails for menus across the world, bringing her point of view to drinks lists that circulate far beyond a single bar or market. Her mixology style is described as ever evolving and exciting to follow, which fits a professional practice built on movement, revision, and sustained attention to what cocktails can do in service. In 2019, she became an associate partner of the BAR 5-Day Program, adding education to a career already shaped by advocacy and industry leadership. The appointment aligns with the rest of her work: hands-on craft on one side, field-building on the other. In teaching, leadership, and cocktail development, Voisey’s position in the trade is defined by range, not by a single lane.
