Dewey Markham Jr.

Dewey Markham Jr. was a New York-born wine scholar, writer, and educator who lived and worked in Bordeaux, France, from the early 1990s until his death in November 2021. He taught wine studies at the French cooking school L’Ecole de Cuisine La Varenne in Paris from 1986 to 1989, later taught wine courses at the Culinary Institute, and became known for his book 1855: A History of the Bordeaux Classification, which won a James Beard Award for wine book of the year. He also authored Wine Basics and worked as a guide, lecturer, and organizer of vineyard visits in Bordeaux.
