i. Biography
Eduard Sacher was the Viennese hotelier who founded Hotel Sacher Wien in 1876. The son of pastry chef Franz Sacher, he built an exclusive hotel beside the Vienna State Opera and established the family name as both a hospitality institution and the home of the Original Sacher-Torte. After his death in 1892, his wife Anna assumed control of the hotel.
