i. Biography
Founder and co-owner of High Street Hospitality Group in Philadelphia, Ellen Yin studied at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Originally from a small shore town in New Jersey, she has described the restaurant as "a place not only for people to come in and feel some sense of community and belonging, but also as a creative venture." That framing places hospitality on two tracks at once: as a public room and as a mode of making.
The Climb
Over the years, she has built her reputation on the exacting balance she first described: a restaurant shaped not by a single gesture, but by the full field of the experience. Music, space, food, and service are treated as connected parts of one room, and they have to land together. What started as a place for gathering has become a sustained practice in building environments that feel considered, welcoming, and deliberate.
Today
She is founder and co-owner of High Street Hospitality Group in Philadelphia. In that role, Yin continues to oversee a collection of concepts that treat restaurants as both social anchor and creative platform. The work stays tied to the same operating idea: dining can be more than a transaction, and the craft is in the rhythm, detail, and atmosphere that let a room hold both ease and intention.
Signature
Ellen's signature dishes include Fork and High Street on Market, kitchen+bar, High Street Restaurant & Bakery, and The Wonton Project. Each name reflects a different register of her approach to hospitality: how a place feels, how a meal moves, and how a guest is received. Taken together, they cover a range that runs from market and bakery to bar and project, each one a distinct version of the same underlying discipline.
In Their Words “From my perspective as a young person, I saw the restaurant as a place not only for people to come in and feel some sense of community and belonging, but also as a creative venture.” “The music, space, food, and service all need to be right and come together to create an experience, which I saw as an art form.”
