Where They Are Now

The current focus at Domaine Paul Janin et Fils is Moulin-à-Vent crus and the family wines of Beaujolais, a range built to hold both ageworthiness and immediate drinkability. The wines are described as elegant, deep, fleshy, tamed, and approachable, which points to a cellar approach aimed at control without stripping away generosity. For Éric Janin, that balance is carried from vineyard to bottle through deliberate work rather than embellishment. Harvest timing is one of the clearest markers of the house style. At the estate, picking almost always comes last, giving the grapes the extra time needed to reach full ripeness. That choice puts patience at the center of the process: the season is allowed to finish, and the fruit is taken when it is ready rather than when it is convenient. The result is a style that is grounded, assured, and built with enough structure to develop. The range also lets that method show in different registers. Héritage is described as combining structure and richness, drawn from the estate’s oldest vines. Within that bottling, the older parcels are not treated as a decorative reference point; they are part of how the domaine articulates its lineage in practice.
