i. Biography
Coming Up
Study at the University of Bordeaux came before cellar and harvest work in California, and that order matters here: Frederick Ammons’ early training was followed by a first harvest position at Opus One (2001), where the work sat under winemaker Michael Silacci. From there, the path moved through winemaking roles at Seavey Vineyard and The Napa Valley Reserve (2004–2012), a span that shows progression built on vineyard and cellar repetition rather than display. Since 2013, the work has been centered at Rudd Estate, where Frederick has served as winemaker and winegrower. The appointment places him inside the full cycle of an estate program, with the title reflecting years of accumulation rather than a single season’s result.
In Their Words “Subtle changes in farming don’t happen overnight, so they are sometimes hard to justify to ownership.” “Every vintage is a new story, a new education and new reward.”
