The Path

Since 2010, the winemaking and chief winemaking work at Gál Tibor Winery, Eger, Hungary has sat with Gál Tibor Jr as a long-term exercise in regional stewardship. The role has meant working inside a place already defined by memory and reputation, while shaping wines that read as current, precise, and rooted in Eger rather than detached from it.

The Work Today

The present work is built around two wines that carry different parts of Eger’s identity. Gál Tibor Jr says, "Our aim is to bring back the good reputation of the Egri Bikavér (Bull’s Blood of Eger) and build up the fame of our newcomer white called the Egri Csillag (Star of Eger)." That pairing sets the job: one wine tied to continuity, the other to newer ground, both used to keep the region visible and legible. Egri Bikavér and Egri Csillag are handled as more than labels; they are the working vocabulary of the house style. Egri Bikavér brings the weight of tradition, while Egri Csillag gives the cellar a white wine with equal regional purpose. The craft here is in keeping both wines in step with the present without stripping away the older structure that gives them meaning.

Signature

The signature wines — Egri Bikavér Superior, Gál Tibor Egri Csillag 2024, Gál Tibor Kékfrankos Limited Edition 2018, Egri Csillag, and Egri Bikavér — show the range of Gál Tibor Jr’s cellar work. Together they trace a line between regionally recognisable wines and more focused bottlings, with Eger as the constant reference point.
