i. Biography
Coming Up
Training at Institut Jules Guyot in Dijon gave Géraldine Godot the technical base for the work that followed at Bodega Las Niñas and later as manager and oenologist at Alex Gambal estate. Since 2014, she has been Technical Director and winemaker of Domaine de l’Arlot, where vineyard decisions and cellar judgment sit in the same hands.
Where They Are Now
Technical direction in Burgundy asks for a dual reading of the year: what is happening in the vineyard, and what the cellar can responsibly do with it. Géraldine Godot holds that line at Domaine de l’Arlot, where precision and restraint matter as much as timing, and where the work depends on tracking the season through fruit, harvest pace, and the shape of each cuvée. At the domaine, Clos de l'Arlot is marked by red-fruit notes such as wild strawberry and raspberry. Clos des Forêts Saint Georges Monopole sits in a more forceful register, bold and spicy, while Romanée Saint Vivant Grand Cru is described as softer and finer, with a striking thread of florality. Côte de Nuits Villages Clos du Chapeau appears in the 2019 record of her work there, another sign of a program built on consistency and attentiveness rather than flourish. The cellar language is direct, and it stays close to conditions. Godot has said, “The season got underway very early in easy, nice, weather.” On harvest timing, she noted, “We started and finished in August – 22-30 harvested – the first time the domaine has finished its harvest in August.” On cellar choice, she added, “I used plenty of whole clusters in this vintage.” Taken together, the wines and the comments point to a winemaker working from what the year gives her: timing, ripeness, cluster use, and the distinct temperaments of each cuvée. The result is a practice of quiet control, where the making stays close to the season and each bottling carries the evidence of those decisions.
