The Climb
At Vigna '800 in Veneto, the founding year of 2001 and the winemaking role that followed have set the terms of Gianfranco Elampini’s work. The first step was not a detour from the trade but the trade itself: vineyard, cellar, and the discipline of making wine from a fixed place. Since 2001, that same base has remained the reference point, with Gianfranco Elampini continuing as winemaker of Vigna '800 and carrying forward the methods and habits shaped there from the start.
Today
He still works from the same winemaking base, and the continuity matters. The craft stays tied to grapes from his land and to direct contact with the people at the table, where wine is handled as part of service, not as a separate performance. In Gianfranco Elampini’s own words, the work includes welcoming guests, explaining the wines, and keeping the exchange rooted in Venetian traditions. The emphasis is on hospitality as a practical part of the role, alongside the cellar work that produces the bottles.
In Their Words “I like to talk to people, meet them, telling them about me and my dream, doing what I know how to do: I welcome and make those who sit at the table with me feel good, sharing the food and wine of the Venetian traditions.” “It takes time to share the story to understand that each wine is the story of a vineyard, with its unique micro-climate and winemaking methods.”
Recognition
The idea that each wine begins with a vineyard — its micro-climate and its winemaking methods — is the framework behind Gianfranco Elampini’s work. That way of speaking is also a way of working: measured, site-led, and specific to Vigna '800. The recognition here is not separate from the daily trade; it comes from treating the vineyard as the source of the wine’s character and the cellar as the place where those decisions are carried through to the bottle.
