The Path
At Bellamour Winery in West Auckland, Gordon Russell started as a vintage cellar worker in 1986, a first role that sat close to the basic seasonal work of wine production. Over the longer stretch at Esk Valley in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand (1993–2023), he worked as winemaker and later as senior winemaker, with that three-decade tenure carrying his career there.
The Work Today
After retiring from the estate, Gordon Russell moved to Gordon Russell Wine. He has described it as "Gordon Russell Wine is that project" and "An opportunity for me to share my knowledge and love of Hawke's Bay and its wines with fellow enthusiasts."
Signature
Among Gordon's signature dishes are The Terraces, New Zealand's first Malbec, Verdelho, Merlot Rose, and Merlot, Malbec, Cabernets blend.
