The Path
Close-to-the-vine apprenticeship set the terms early on: working with a small producer in Chianti Classico in Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy (1997–2002) gave Jarkko Per direct exposure to regional rhythm, field work, and the discipline that comes from repeating the same tasks through a season. Those years were spent learning the region from the ground up, where climate, landscape, and labor are part of the same system. In 2002, the work turned into ownership, with Jarkko Per buying a farm and beginning to make wine there as winemaker / co-owner of Candialle. In Panzano in Chianti, that meant carrying the earlier education into a setting where farming and winemaking were inseparable. The shift was less a change of direction than a deeper commitment to soil, season, and the patient routines of cultivation.
The Work Today
At Candialle, the method is organized around holistic farming, environmentally friendly cultivation methods, and strict yield control. The cellar starts in the vineyard, with restraint used as a working principle rather than a slogan. Field decisions are not separate from the wine; they define its frame and keep the project consistent. The range shows that approach in different registers. Ciclope, the Merlot-based wine, is set out as very fresh, fruity, and easy drinking. Pli, the top-quality IGT cru wine, sits at the more concentrated end of the estate’s output. Read together, the wines point to a house style built on discipline, measured farming, and a preference for vineyard character over excess.
Signature
Jarkko's signature wines include Ciclope, Pli, Chianti Classico Candialle, and La Misse.
Acclaim
The career arc stays compact: work with a small producer in Chianti Classico, then a farm taken on and worked from Candialle. That kind of continuity matters in wine, where repetition, site knowledge, and farming decisions accumulate over time. The throughline is agricultural as much as vinous. A Finnish arrival in Tuscany settled into Panzano in Chianti and kept returning to the same set of practices: natural vineyard work, environmentally friendly cultivation, and strict control of yields. The result is a body of work defined by persistence rather than range.
