Jean-Claude Berrouet

Coming Up

Berrouet built his standing as winemaker and technical director at Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix (1964–2007), where a long run in a high-scrutiny environment set the terms of his reputation. Across those years, the job required exacting calls on ripeness, texture, balance, and timing—work that rewards restraint more than display. From 1982, he also served as technical consultant / chief winemaker at Dominus Estate, extending that same disciplined approach to another serious estate. He later became consultant to assist in production of Napa Valley Merlot at Twomey Cellars (from 2012), another Merlot-focused assignment that kept the emphasis on site, proportion, and precision. Today, Jean-Claude is Technical consultant of Various wineries in Israel, Argentina, China, and France (since 2007), a role that reflects the reach of his practice and the confidence others place in his judgment across very different winegrowing contexts.

Where They Are Now

His current work includes the Consultant Winemaker / oenologist role at Château Fleur de Lisse. It suits a winemaker whose reputation comes from listening closely to what the vineyard, the vintage, and the finished wine require, then answering with restraint and clarity.

Signature

Jean-Claude's signature wines include Château Pétrus and Dominus Estate. Those names point to the scale of his experience: wines associated with precision, gravity, and a preference for finesse over excess.

Honors

In 2018, the Institute of Masters of Wine gave Berrouet the Winemakers' Winemaker award. In a trade that often rewards visibility, the honor marks a different kind of standing: peer recognition for steadiness, discretion, and long practice.
