i. Biography
Estate continuity in Burgundy is built through proximity, representation, governance, and daily management rather than through abrupt succession. At Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Perrine Fenal’s role as co-director and co-manager, held since 2019, follows a long relationship with the estate: family visits, commercial representation, a Supervisory Board seat, and then shared operational leadership. The work at a domaine of this standing depends on controlled transmission: knowing what must be protected, what must be explained, and what must remain consistent across markets and generations. Fenal’s career sits inside that structure, moving from importer and distributor of its wines in Western Switzerland to governance, then to co-management of the Burgundy estate. “Our wines are the champions here.” Perrine has said.
Training and Lineage
Commercial representation of a Burgundy domaine requires more than sales. In Western Switzerland, Perrine Fenal built her early reputation as importer and distributor of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti wines at Perrine Fenal S.A. (1992–2004), a position that required fluency in the estate’s reputation, allocation culture, and the restraint expected when presenting wines whose identity is closely tied to place. Governance at a domaine shifts the work from representing bottles to protecting the conditions around them. From 2004 to 2019, Fenal served as member of the Supervisory Board at the estate, a role concerned with oversight rather than public display, and with the balance between continuity, responsibility, and institutional direction. Shared management of this Burgundy domaine places decision-making inside a collaborative structure. As co-director / co-manager since 2019, Perrine Fenal works within daily obligations where continuity is practical work: maintaining standards, protecting identity, and carrying inherited responsibility without turning it into performance.
At Work Now
Co-direction at the estate is a role defined by stewardship and discipline. Since 2019, Fenal has served as co-director and co-manager, helping carry forward a domaine whose identity rests on patience, precision, and its connection to Burgundy.
