Since 2003, the director-and-winemaker role at Château Branaire-Ducru has carried the task of keeping Saint-Julien structure aligned with fruit, freshness and elegance. Jean-Dominique Videau has held that role through a practice defined in record by precision, steadiness and attention to the estate’s established style.

Where They Are Now

The Branaire-Ducru style is not built as a solitary exercise. Its stated focus is sapidity and enjoyment, with wines described as drinkable in both strong Bordeaux vintages and more classic ones. Freshness remains a working marker across the range. The wines are characterized by pure, fruity aromas and freshness, and are described as elegant and quintessential Saint-Julien in every vintage. Duluc de Branaire-Ducru, the second wine, stays inside the same estate language, offering another expression of the house’s fruit-freshness-elegance signature. Press wine handling is treated as a blending tool rather than a bulk correction. As Jean-Dominique Videau puts it, “And we separate the press wine first by lot, but then we deal with it on a barrel-by-barrel basis.”
