Jean-René Matignon was the longtime technical director and winemaker at Château Pichon Baron in Pauillac. The estate's historical timeline records his retirement in 2022 after 35 vintages and the arrival of Pierre Montégut as technical director. Across that tenure, Matignon helped guide the Second Growth through vineyard and cellar renewal under AXA Millésimes and became closely associated with the modern identity of its Cabernet Sauvignon-led grand vin. His Pichon Baron relationship is historical rather than current.
