Beginnings

Britton Bauer could watch people hesitate, commit, return to a flavor, and share it with someone beside them. The job taught her not just how to make ice cream, but how to notice the tiny social rituals that happen around it. Britton Bauer has described that early stretch in plain, generous terms: “I worked at the counter and made all the ice cream for 8 years and it was so much fun to watch people choose and see how they connected with the ice creams and then shared with their friends.” The line carries the whole atmosphere of the beginning: the repetition of the work, the closeness of the audience, and the fascination with how taste becomes a form of connection.

The Rise

The real turn came in 2002, when she founded Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams in Columbus. With that step, the work she had been doing by hand took on a formal identity, but not a colder one. The company gave her vision a home, and Columbus became the place where that vision could widen without losing its specificity. Today, Britton Bauer works as Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams in Columbus, United States. The title keeps her close to the source of the work. It suggests an ongoing role in imagining, shaping, and refining, rather than standing apart from the process. She puts it simply: “I’m making ice creams from my perspective.” That perspective is the thread that runs through the entire story — from the art studio to the Upper Arlington shop, from the eight years at the counter to the 2002 founding in Columbus, and into the present.
