Jeremy Ligon

The Path

Training at California State University, Fresno gave Jeremy Ligon a base in the technical side of winegrowing and production. That foundation—part technical, part instinctive, and attentive to the steps between grape and glass—has shaped the way he works since. Since 2021, he has been winemaker and director of production and head winemaker of Barrel Oak Winery & Brewery, where the role brings together daily cellar decisions, production oversight, and the longer view of style.

The Work Today

The cellar method is direct: “Our winemaking blends modern techniques for whites with old-world methods for dry reds so each wine reflects its vintage and varietal at its best.” Jeremy Ligon uses that split as a working philosophy. Whites are handled with a modern hand for freshness and clarity, while dry reds are made with methods that lean on tradition for structure and depth. The through line is precision without ornament, with Virginia wine and each season’s conditions kept in view.

Signature

The signature wines include 2023 Sauvignon Blanc and rosé. Together they show the range of Jeremy Ligon’s cellar decisions: Sauvignon Blanc for brightness and line, rosé for lift and immediate drinkability. In both wines, the aim stays consistent—clean expression, careful craft, and attention to what the fruit brings in.
