Johnson and Wales University gave Jin Yang a working base in precision and adaptability, two habits that have shaped the rest of his kitchen path. From that training, Jin moved into larger operations with a disciplined approach to technique and a clear eye for the systems that carry food from kitchen to guest. The corporate executive chef role at Sustainable Restaurant Group added the pressures of scale, where consistency and leadership sit alongside culinary point of view. Since 2019, Jin has served as culinary director of Boise Co-op. The position places him in a setting where food, community, and local sourcing are part of the same brief, and where the work depends on both execution and relationship-building.

Where They Are Now

At Boise Co-op, the culinary director role has called for practical oversight and a working understanding of how food connects people beyond service. In that setting, the kitchen functions as a point of contact for farmers, restaurateurs, and neighbors, which makes the job as much about coordination as flavor. It also sits within a broader food community shaped by local ingredients and local voices. “Working with the Boise Co-op gives me the opportunity to drive this change by connecting with the community, local farmers, and restaurateurs.” The work reads as outward-facing and grounded in place: a role that turns collaboration into daily practice.
