Johannes Kopp

Owner of Weingut Kopp in Sinzheim, Baden-Württemberg, Johannes Kopp stepped fully into the family winery in 2012, taking over its management and responsibility and beginning to shape its direction in his own steady way. From the outset, his focus has been less on quick change than on deliberate transformation: a step-by-step conversion toward biodynamic and organic viticulture, moving away from mineral fertilizer, herbicides, and chemical plant-protection products. The result is a philosophy that reads as much like a long conversation with the land as a production method, one rooted in patience, observation, and a clear sense of purpose. At the winery in Sinzheim-Ebenung, that shift has been central to the work under his leadership since 2012. Kopp’s approach is grounded in biodynamic and holistic winemaking, where the vineyard is not treated as an isolated machine but as part of a larger living whole. The emphasis is on wines that reflect their place with clarity and presence, carrying a distinctive character in Baden. In his hands, the idea of character is not a decorative flourish but the point of the exercise: wines shaped to speak plainly of where they come from, and to do so with their own identity intact. That guiding philosophy is captured in Kopp’s own words. “The motto was to create \"the highest quality in harmony between people and nature.\"” It is a statement that suggests both ambition and restraint, pairing excellence with balance rather than excess.
