Since 2001, winemaking and exports have been directed by Juan Andrés Marichal at Bodega Marichal in Canelones, Uruguay, where cellar decisions and market presentation sit in the same workflow. The role calls for reading harvests closely, holding to balance in the fruit, and keeping the house style legible from vineyard to bottle.

The Work Today

Winemaking paired with exports asks for more than technical control; it requires judgment about how a wine carries itself beyond its place of origin. Pinot Noir is approached with the same practical constraint. “We wanted to make a Pinot Noir, but we thought on its own it didn't have enough acidity.” In that line, Juan Andrés Marichal makes the method clear: start with what the fruit can support, then build within those limits rather than against them.
