Kerry Marhefka has held the co-owner role at Abundant Seafood since 2007, and also serves as a member of South Atlantic Fishery Management Council.

Today

Dock-to-buyer seafood work sits between landing schedules, restaurant purchasing, home cooking, and the practical terms of sustainability. As co-owner and manager of Abundant Seafood, Marhefka works in that daily middle ground in the Charleston area. Fishery policy gains use when people who handle local sales and community access are in the room. As a member of the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, Marhefka brings the perspective of a community-supported fishery operator into a regional fisheries forum. The same questions carry through the business week: who catches the fish, who gets access to it, and how a local seafood economy can last. Long-term seafood work is measured in continuity, not campaigns. In 2024, Marhefka was a keynote speaker at Slow Fish 2024 in Charleston, South Carolina, where her own words set the frame for the work: "We're not in this for the short term. I want my grandkids to go and be able to eat good food."
