i. Biography
"Everything we want is on the other side of fear."
The Path
Foundational training at the University of Utah gave Lavanya Mahate a base for work that moved beyond credentials into public-facing business building. At Salt Lake Chamber, she started as an intern and learned the mechanics of enterprise from the ground up, then advanced to Program Director, Women's Business Center at Salt Lake Chamber, where entrepreneurship, advocacy, and access sat in the same remit. In time, that impulse took form in Lavanya Mahate’s own ventures, with Saffron Valley and RISE Culinary Institute becoming the clearest expression of a practice centered on culture, craft, and opportunity.
The Work Today
Saffron Valley Restaurants and RISE Culinary Institute define Lavanya Mahate’s current work. One operates in hospitality; the other in training and development. Together they show a business approach that treats restaurants and education as linked disciplines: one shaped by service and execution, the other by skill-building and confidence. "I like igniting that spark." The line fits the work because it points to initiation rather than finish. Across Saffron Valley Restaurants and RISE Culinary Institute, Lavanya Mahate’s role is less about decoration than activation: creating environments where ideas can become practice and where people can see a path into the work.
In Their Words “I believe in freedom through voice. Power through choice. Ownership for all.” The statement lays out the terms of her leadership in plain language. Voice, choice, and ownership are treated as working conditions, not slogans, and that framing puts agency at the center of how Lavanya Mahate defines success. “Acknowledge what’s true. Clarify what matters. Embody the choice, daily.” There is procedure in the phrasing. It reads like a daily method for decision-making: name the fact, identify the priority, then act on it consistently. For Lavanya Mahate, principle is only useful when it can be repeated in practice.
