The Climb

A career in service and operations sits behind the distillery work, and Lorna Scott’s path shows that clearly. It started as an air hostess at South African Airways, then moved through operations manager and marketing executive roles at Food services company in Scotland, before widening into marketing and sales manager and later operations director at Food service corporation. The sequence matters: logistics, brand, and execution are all part of the same skill set. Public service also shaped that foundation. As deputy mayor at Hessequa Municipality in Still Bay, Scott worked in the town that would later anchor Inverroche Distillery. That overlap between civic life and production is part of how the business took root, with Founder and CEO and Founder and Creative Director reflecting both management and authorship rather than title alone.

Today

The distillery’s core work is built around fynbos botanicals from the Cape Floral Kingdom, and that local material defines the character of the spirits Scott oversees as Founder and CEO of Inverroche Distillery in Still Bay, South Africa. The point is not to mimic imported gin styles; it is to let what grows in South Africa set the terms for flavor, aroma and identity. Technique is equally central. Scott developed a proprietary pot-still process that layers botanicals into steam baskets, using gently heated spirit vapour to draw out aromatic oils. That gives the botanicals a structural role in the spirit, rather than leaving them as a final garnish to the process. The method shapes the way aroma and texture arrive in the glass. The source material for that approach is plain in Scott’s own words: “Nature’s extraordinary bounty of rare, aromatic medicinal and culinary herbs, flowers and berries, which grow all around us, was the main inspiration to create a range of uniquely South African gins.” That line places the work where it belongs — in the landscape around Still Bay, and in the vocabulary of local plant life. Her second point sharpens the commercial frame: “It's important to differentiate between sustainability versus sustainable luxury.” The range carries that framework across Inverroche Gin Amber, Inverroche Gin Classic and Inverroche Gin Verdant. Inverroche Gin Amber is described as a rich and aromatic amber-colored gin with fresh citrus, slight juniper, sweet toffee apples, delicate floral notes, and a dry, woody finish.
