Agronomy gave Manuel Filgueira the first tools for winemaking: reading soil, season, and weather as working materials rather than backdrop. Before he was known as the winemaker at Los Nadies in Canelones, Uruguay, and the owner of Los Nadies boutique winery, that training taught him how to work with what is present, and how to notice what shifts by degrees. The wines are made in tiny quantities, but the method behind them is exacting and broad in scope. Uruguayan by nationality, Filgueira keeps the work pared to essentials, guided by his own compact philosophy: “Simplicity is the secret of life and we get to live it only by risking it all.”

At Los Nadies in Canelones, Uruguay, Manuel Filgueira’s work is built on function. Among them are 2009 Los Nadies Picardia, 2011 Los Nadies Equilibrio, 2015 Los Nadies Equilibrio, and 2011 Los Nadies Impetu. The range in those names signals different registers, but the common thread is precision.
