i. Biography
The Climb
The work of an agronomist can move quickly into the cellar when an estate needs someone who can read both vine and wine. Marco Pallanti arrived at Castello di Ama in 1982 as a young agronomist and became its winemaker and technical director that same year. From there, his career stayed tied to the estate, with his name attached to a long period of continuity in both vineyard and cellar. Beyond Castello di Ama, the trade also placed Pallanti in a regional leadership role. From 2006 to 2012, he served as president of the Chianti Classico Consortium, a position that brought him into the broader framework of Chianti Classico and its standards. That role sits alongside his estate work as part of a career built on both production and representation.
Today
Continuity is the main fact of Pallanti’s work at Castello di Ama. He remains winemaker there, carrying forward the same estate relationship that began in 1982. The position draws on agronomy, technical direction, and cellar work at once, with the emphasis on keeping the wines aligned to the place over time.
Signature
Marco's signature wines include L’Apparita, Vigneto Bellavista, Vigneto San Lorenzo, Vigneto La Casuccia, and Vigneto Bertinga. These wines define the range of Pallanti’s output at Castello di Ama. They are different labels, but they sit within the same estate logic: one maker, one property, several named expressions. The signature is spread across the list rather than concentrated in a single bottling.
Recognition
From 2006 to 2012, Pallanti served as President of the Chianti Classico Consortium. The role marks his standing within the region’s governing structure as well as his long connection to Castello di Ama. That recognition is tied to duration and responsibility rather than display. Pallanti’s career has remained rooted in one estate while extending into the wider world of Chianti Classico, where his work helped carry the region’s framework as well as his own.
