Mark Beringer

Mark Beringer’s 2015–2021 run as winemaker at Beringer Vineyards in St. Helena carried two kinds of weight: the practical demands of the cellar and the responsibility that comes with the Beringer name. Returning as the great-great-grandson of Jacob Beringer, a founding brother of Beringer Vineyards, he stepped into a role where lineage was present, but so was the day-to-day work of making wine to standard. Before Beringer Vineyards, the craft was built in earlier postings at Artesa in Carneros, Benzinger, and Duckhorn. At each stop, Mark Beringer accumulated the sort of repetitions that matter in winemaking: reading a season, making the call, and holding a consistent line from vineyard to cellar. The path suggests less about spectacle than about discipline, with each house adding to a working vocabulary of pace, restraint, and judgment. By the time he returned to Beringer Vineyards in 2015, that background had given him a role suited to both scale and continuity. Mark Beringer entered the estate as someone already fluent in cellar operations and vineyard decision-making, and the appointment joined professional experience to family history without softening either one.
