Milton S. Hershey

Milton Snavely Hershey (1857–1945) was an American chocolatier, businessman, and philanthropist who founded the Hershey Chocolate Company and helped popularize mass-market milk chocolate in the United States. Born in Derry Township, Pennsylvania, he apprenticed with a candy maker in Lancaster, later built the Lancaster Caramel Company, and in 1900 founded the first mass-market chocolate company. He and his wife Catherine established the Milton Hershey School in 1910, and his legacy also includes the planned company town of Hershey, Pennsylvania.
