Agronomy School of Montpellier (1987) gave Philippe Blanc the technical base for a career built around precision and measured decision-making. That training sits behind the responsibilities of estate work, where progress is often made in small steps and where attention to detail matters as much as intent. Since 1995, Philippe has been General Manager of Château Beychevelle, and his role has remained tied to steady oversight rather than display.

The Work Today

The focus remains the Bordeaux wines of Château Beychevelle, where sandy, gravelly soils frame the expression of Cabernet, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Philippe Blanc’s work there has emphasized balance over excess, with the blend held in equilibrium rather than driven toward exaggeration. All wines are barrel-aged with regular barrel tasting, a routine that keeps the process under constant review. The practice is methodical: many stages, each adjusted by degrees. Philippe has described his own aim with characteristic simplicity: "My goal when I arrived here was to make good wines. I just want to be part of the good wine world." That line matches the rest of the work. As he explains it, "the philosophy is to consider the hundreds of stages that lead to making a wine and try to work out how to fine-tune these and improve by little notches in order to climb one step at the end."
