Rebecca Gibb has built a career across journalism, scholarship and wine criticism, with the same control applied to each. At Vinous and Harpers, the work depends on editorial judgment, a working palate and the discipline to hold detail without losing line. As a Master of Wine, Gibb brings formal rigour to the reporting and analysis that have made the wines of the Loire Valley and New Zealand central to her writing. The route into the trade was not linear, and Gibb has been plain about that. “It all started in a ski resort in Australia, actually,” she has said, a line that fits a career shaped by contingency as much as planning. A second interruption proved equally consequential: “I had arranged an internship as a political lobbyist with KPMG in the City [of London] between university years but it fell through at the last minute.” In practice, the gap left by that missed placement became room for publishing and wine to take hold.
