i. Biography
Rosalía Molina is the winemaker at Altolandon in Landete, Spain, the project she co-founded in 1998 and slowly shaped into a high-altitude source of organic, low-intervention wines. Her story moves with the measured confidence of someone who has built a cellar from the ground up: first as a curious student of winemaking, then through years working for different wineries in Manchuela, and finally into her own estate, where Bobal, Muscat à Petit Grains, Garnacha Centenaria and pet nat now express both place and principle.
Early Years
Molina did not come into wine through inheritance or family tradition. She has described that beginning simply: "I studied winemaking as a hobby because my family is not a wine tradition." The line carries a quiet defiance, but also a kind of clarity—an early decision to learn the language of wine for herself, without any script already written. Before the Landete project became the center of her work, she spent years moving through different wineries in Manchuela, absorbing the region from the inside and building a practical foundation before setting out on her own. In her own words, "We started 15 years ago with our project, but before this I was working for different wineries also in Manchuela, so around 25 years." Read that way, the path to Altolandon feels less like a sudden break and more like an accumulation of experience, patience and intent.
Making a Name
In 1998, Molina became co-owner and founder of Altolandon in Landete, Spain, beginning, as she says, "step by step from zero." That phrase suits the estate’s evolution: deliberate, grounded and built with a clear sense of where it wanted to stand. "I'm happy now," she adds, and the remark seems to echo the confidence of a project that has found its shape. Altolandon is known for organic wine from one of Spain’s highest-altitude vineyards, with special attention to local grapes such as Bobal. Irrepetible, first produced in the 2013 vintage, is an entry-level red aged for seven months in oak barrels, a wine that balances aromatic intensity with a lifted sense of freshness. Doña Leo followed as a dry Muscat à Petit Grains with some depth, first released in the 2014 vintage. Con Altura takes that same wine as its base and turns it into pet nat, offering a more untamed expression of the Muscat. Another key bottle is Sin Filtros de Altolandon, a natural wine labeled as Garnacha Centenaria 100% from D.O. Manchuela. In 2015, the producer received vegan wine certification, a dated milestone that sits neatly alongside the estate’s organic farming and minimal intervention ethos.
The Present
Molina’s own description is plain, almost understated: "I just try to sell my philosophy and my place." At Altolandon, that philosophy is now embodied in the wines themselves, with Doña Leo, Con Altura, Irrepetible and Sin Filtros carrying the voice of Landete in distinctly different registers.
