i. Biography
Sarah Ahn’s work is organized around recipe preservation as a working practice: the collection, testing, writing, and sharing of the cooking of Nam Soon Ahn. The claim is stated plainly in Ahn’s own words: “I’m the daughter of Nam Soon Ahn.” From there, the work stays close to usable instruction. These are recipes treated as cookable records, built to be repeated in home kitchens rather than kept as family artifacts.
Coming Up
Digital food work, when it is disciplined, can function as an archive with a stove attached. Since 2018, Sarah Ahn has made Ahnest Kitchen a place for documenting Family Recipes, while also working as social media manager of America's Test Kitchen. The useful center of the work is not nostalgia; it is the translation of observed kitchen knowledge into forms another cook can follow. Cookbook authorship extends that same preservation method into print. The project keeps the family source visible: mother and daughter, recipe and recollection, Korean kitchen wisdom set down for repeat use.
Where They Are Now
Recipe documentation remains the working through-line. Ahn remains creator of Ahnest Kitchen and also works as social media manager at America's Test Kitchen. Across both roles, the task is the same: present the cooking of Nam Soon Ahn with enough clarity that it can move from memory into practice. The book form gives that work a more durable structure. She is co-author, with Nam Soon Ahn, of Umma: A Korean Mom's Kitchen Wisdom and 100 Family Recipes. Its value is practical as well as familial: a set of Korean Family Recipes and kitchen wisdom preserved in written form, without separating the instructions from the person who carried them.
Signature
Sarah's signature dishes include Umma: A Korean Mom’s Kitchen Wisdom and 100 Family Recipes, Kimchi Jjigae (Kimchi Stew), Korean Fried Chicken, Ooyoo Cream Doughnuts (Milk Cream Doughnuts), and Angel Hair Bibimguksu. The signature set points to range inside a family kitchen register: stew, fried chicken, filled doughnuts, and dressed noodles. In Ahn’s hands, Kimchi Jjigae (Kimchi Stew), Korean Fried Chicken, Ooyoo Cream Doughnuts (Milk Cream Doughnuts), and Angel Hair Bibimguksu sit within the larger work of recording Nam Soon Ahn’s recipes so they can be cooked, shared, and carried forward.
In Their Words “I’m the daughter of Nam Soon Ahn. My sole purpose is to collect and share my Mom’s recipes.” “I don’t want to keep them just for myself, so I’m collecting them here on Ahnest Kitchen.”
