He then built his winemaking practice at wine estates in Burgundy, France, before extending it at wine estates in Languedoc-Roussillon, France. The arc is familiar to working winemakers: education, cellar work, then broader regional exposure. Martinique added a different problem to solve. As vineyard developer / winemaker at EU Caribbean vineyard project, Marquet worked in a setting far from Burgundy’s inherited rhythms, applying the same discipline to a new landscape. In California, he continued as winemaker at Ledson in Napa and Sonoma, California, adding another set of sites to his working range without changing the underlying method: adapt to place, keep the craft central. Since 2018, Marquet has balanced his own label, Sébastien Marquet Wines, with consulting winemaker work at Greenhill Winery & Vineyards. The pairing matters in trade terms: one role keeps his personal decisions in view, while the other places that experience in service of another winery’s production.

At Greenhill Winery & Vineyards in Middleburg, United States, the consulting winemaker role asks for judgment, not flourish. Marquet brings Burgundian training, later work in Languedoc-Roussillon, Martinique, Napa, and Sonoma into a current cellar context, where the value is in reading the material clearly and making decisions that hold up in the glass.

Signature

Marquet’s signature wines include Philosophy, 2021 Petit Manseng, Eternity, and Mythology. The names signal range, but the trade point is simpler: these are the wines through which his own label states its priorities, with each bottling carrying a different expression of the same working sensibility.
