Since 2022, co-leadership at Aganis has given Simone Cecchetto a direct hand in shaping the project’s language and pace. The work reads as methodical rather than theatrical: establish identity, keep the line clean, and build something that can hold together without overstatement. In that frame, the influence is foundational, but it is also open-ended, leaving room for the project to develop without losing its outline.

At Aganis in Treppo Grande, Udine, Italy, the 2022–present role remains centered on making wines that point back to territory and tradition while staying contemporary in expression. With Refosco and Friulano named as the project’s focus, the work is defined by selection and emphasis rather than sprawl. The result is a position that treats inheritance as material, not script: recognizable in its roots, but shaped for a present-tense table.

Cecchetto’s own description puts the intent plainly: “Aganis is a project only of ours, a new starting point. We are looking at a land that is almost virgin, with unlimited potential.” It is a practical statement of scope. The land is the starting point, the potential is real, and the work is to read it carefully enough to give it form without forcing it.

Refosco and Friulano define the project’s center of gravity. That narrow focus gives Aganis its shape: two grapes, one clear set of priorities, and a profile that favors depth of expression over range for its own sake. The specialty is specific, and the ambition sits inside that specificity.
