At Piedmont College, the foundation was laid for work that later moved from building sites into vineyard and winery management. Before Potomac Point Winery became the center of his professional life, Skip Causey spent years in construction, building homes and communities until 2019. That background put him in work that depends on planning, sequencing, and seeing a project through over time. In 2007, ownership and winemaking came together at Potomac Point Winery in Stafford, Virginia, where Skip Causey became owner, proprietor, and winemaker. The role kept him close to both the estate and the glass, with daily decisions shaping how the winery presented itself and how its wines were made. His work in the vineyard world also extends beyond the property, including service as president of Vineyard Association.

Where They Are Now

Vineyard work here is framed by both current leadership and past service: Skip Causey is president of the Vineyard Association and formerly served as president of the Virginia Vineyards Association. Norton sits among his specialties, and he describes it plainly: “It’s very unique, but it is not for everybody.” The line matches the grape itself—distinct, not universally read, and handled with the kind of directness that comes from working with a wine that asks for an engaged audience. That same directness carries into how the wine is received. Causey added, “But we are finding that it has a cult following.” For a wine that can divide opinion, that kind of response matters; it signals a drinker base that returns for character rather than consensus. At Potomac Point Winery, that preference for specificity over broad appeal is part of the frame.
