The Route
Argentine white-wine work and Torrontés handling sit at the center of Susana Balbo’s practice, built on formal training at Don Bosco University in 1981 and cellar work that began the same year as an enologist at Michel Torino Winery in Salta, Argentina. The craft record widened through consultant winemaking until 1999, then through the founding of Dominio del Plata Winery and Susana Balbo Wines in Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina, both established in 1999. Trade representation became part of the work in 2006, when Balbo assumed the role of president at Wines of Argentina.
The Work Today
Winemaking at Susana Balbo Wines in Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza, continues to be defined by Torrontés, white wines, and a stated “haute couture” approach: precision, selection, and creative control within the cellar. For top Malbec bottlings, the work includes hand-harvested fruit, extended post-fermentation maceration, and aging in predominantly new oak barrels. A blend of cultured and native yeasts is used, placing the wines between controlled fermentation practice and site-responsive cellar work.

Signature bottlings include BenMarco Malbec Los Chacayes, BenMarco Expresivo, and Nosotros Single Vineyard Nómade.
Distinctions
Recognition has come from both wine-trade and business contexts, including Decanter Hall of Fame (2024), The 10 most influential women in the wine world (2018), and Woman Entrepreneur of the Year (1997).
