i. Biography
Coming Up
At University of California, Davis, Ted Henry built the technical base that would carry into cellar and vineyard roles. From 1999 at Trinchero Family Estates, that work moved through enologist, Assistant Winemaker, and Associate Winemaker, before he took on winemaking at Artesa Winery and Vineyards and then winemaker and director of winemaking at Clos du Val in Napa Valley (2016–2021). Since 2021, he has served as director of winegrowing at Groth Vineyards & Winery.
Where They Are Now
At Groth Vineyards & Winery, the work links vineyard decisions to cellar results, with Estate-grown Bordeaux varietal wines at the center of the brief. Ted Henry describes the current remit in terms of estate vineyards, family partnership, and Oakville appellation work: "I look forward to working closely with the family and grower partners as we continue to explore all aspects of our estate vineyards and the Oakville appellation." The throughline in that work is Estate-grown Bordeaux varietal wines, handled with attention to ripeness, tannin, mid-palate weight, and the line between vineyard source and finished bottle.
In Their Words “I look forward to working closely with the family and grower partners as we continue to explore all aspects of our estate vineyards and the Oakville appellation.” “I have long admired the, vineyard-driven wines of Groth and the family’s adherence to growing and making wines with a distinctive sense of place.”
