i. Biography
Coffee Quality Control sits at the center of Tim Wendelboe’s work: training, roasting, bar work, consulting, and green-coffee production are treated as connected parts of the same trade. The through-line is not expansion for its own sake, but control over how coffee is sourced, roasted, brewed, tasted, and taught.
The Making
Staff Training and Quality Control at Stockfleths in Oslo, Norway, gave Tim Wendelboe an early platform for building coffee standards inside a working retail operation. From 1998, the role required calibration across people and product, with roasting added as a practical discipline he continued at Stockfleth's until 2004. Consulting and barista training in 2006 moved that quality-control work beyond one company. As a Freelance Consultant and Barista Trainer, Tim Wendelboe worked in the trade register of instruction: technique, service standards, and repeatability in the cup. A roastery and espresso bar opened in Oslo in 2007 under the Tim Wendelboe name, placing roasting and service under one roof. In 2019, ownership of Finca El Suelo in Huila, Colombia, extended that work further upstream, connecting the retail and roasting practice to coffee production.
Now
Light roasts and single-origin coffees define the current production language at Tim Wendelboe in Oslo, operating since 2007. The stated cup goal is clean and uniform taste, built through selection, roasting, and Quality Control rather than through broad blends or heavy roast character. Green-coffee work also includes Finca El Suelo in Colombia, owned by Tim Wendelboe since 2019. That farm ownership places part of the supply chain inside the same quality system as the Oslo roastery and espresso bar.
Awards and Standing
Competition recognition marks both sensory skill and barista execution in Tim Wendelboe’s record. He won the World Cup Tasters Championship in 2005, a title centered on comparative tasting and accuracy. He was Norwegian Barista Champion in 2001, 2002, and 2004, placed second at the World Barista Championship in 2002, and won the World Barista Champion title in 2004. A practitioner moving through the coffee trade by way of training, roasting, bar service, sensory competition, and production. The work remains organized around control: how coffee is selected, roasted, brewed, tasted, and taught.
