The Climb

Early in Yann Chave’s career, he worked as economist with a bank in Paris until 1996. In 1996, he turned to wine, becoming owner and producer of wines of Domaine Yann Chave; today, he is also president of Appellation Crozes-Hermitage. The move was not merely a change of profession but a change of scale and rhythm: from the ordered cadence of the bank to the slower, more elemental intelligence of the vineyard. Under Domaine Yann Chave, his work took root in the textures and contours of the northern Rhône, where the distinctions between parcels, stones, and exposures are never abstract for long.

Today

He owns and produces wines at the domaine, with his focus centered on Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage wines. The emphasis is on precision and place, on drawing character from two appellations that ask for attentiveness rather than display. The domaine’s identity is bound to the landscape as much as to the cellar, and Chave’s role places him at the meeting point of both.

Yann's signature dishes include Le Rouvre, Yann Chave Hermitage Rouge, Yann Chave Crozes Hermitage Rouge, Crozes-Hermitage 2021 White, and Le Rouvre 2018.
