Sixth generation at the cellar

The tasting and checking sit close together for Adriana Ochoa, winemaker at Bodegas Ochoa in Olite. She works where the family name is not a label detail but a line of responsibility, carried through six generations in Navarra and fixed to a house founded in 1845. Her role joins winemaking with quality control, which means the cellar is not separated from the standard the bottle must meet. Timing, assessment and correction belong to the same discipline.

At Bodegas Ochoa, that discipline reaches beyond the pass of a vintage. Adriana Ochoa is also owner, and since 2017 has held formal responsibility within Bodegas Ochoa SA as apoderado. The titles matter because they keep the practical work of wine close to the decisions that shape the house. The estate describes wine as something that sets the rhythm of family life; in the cellar, that idea becomes less a statement than a sequence of choices, tasted and checked until intent becomes finished wine.

Estate fruit, divided into three series

Ochoa works only with its own grapes, from approximately 145 hectares of estate vineyard in and around Olite. The house states the rule plainly: it makes wine from vines it plants, prunes and harvests itself. That closed loop gives the cellar a narrower margin for excuse and a clearer one for identity. Low yields, organic cultivation in transition, integrated viticulture and research sit inside the same method, with technology used to read the plots rather than detach the wine from them.

In 2025, for the winery’s 180th anniversary, the range was reorganized into three series: Now, Here and Always. Now gathers wines made for present drinking. Here turns toward single-varietal wines from specific plots, including work with heritage varieties and techniques such as aging on lees in concrete egg. Always holds the legacy reds, including Reserva and Gran Reserva wines. Across the range, the point is not novelty for its own sake. The cellar uses the structure to make distinctions legible, parcel by parcel, bottle by bottle.

The wolf on the label, the vineyard in the room

The tasting room and cellar carry the quiet pressure of a family house that has chosen continuity without standing still. In 2025, Ochoa renewed its visual identity around the words Ahora, Aquí, Siempre: Now, Here, Always. The wolf, tied to the meaning of the Ochoa name in Basque, moved into a more forward-looking mark. The labels place the family name in the foreground and set photographs made by Adriana’s father behind it, so the bottle holds both the present hand and the previous gaze.

That is the texture of the place while the work happens: vineyard decisions arriving at the cellar, quality control returning them to the glass, and a family mark made to carry present tense without cutting the line behind it.
