The winery’s roots reach back to the 1700s in the Montello hills, where rural labor, noble estates, and vine-growing formed part of the local economy. The present estate carries that history through a family-run cellar and a sustainability-forward vineyard practice rather than through ornament. The honor in the name comes from Commendator Pozzobon’s public recognition as Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2004, one marker in a working life attached to this place. The stronger continuity is simpler: countryside, winery, bottle, buyer.

Clay hills and resistant vines

The vineyards sit on clayey, rolling terrain at approximately 200 meters, with hillside exposure that suits vine work better than many other crops. The appellation language is broad and local at once: DOC Montello Asolo, Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG, and Veneto IGT. The cellar’s range moves through still red, still white, still rosé, and sparkling wine, with Cabernet Cortis, Pinot Nero, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Recantina among the named grapes.

Sustainability here has a formal agricultural standard. In 2018, the estate received SQNPI certification for vineyard sustainability, the National Quality System for Integrated Production. That certification gives shape to integrated vineyard work, especially where resistant-leaning varieties reduce pressure in the field. Cabernet Cortis carries particular weight in that program because it belongs to the PIWI family of disease-resistant grapes. The house also names a red wine aged in 17 hl oak barrels for 12 months before bottling, a cellar choice that places time and wood into the wine without detaching it from the hillside fruit.

A quiet cellar in the Montello hills

The room is built for guided tasting and cellar tasting, not spectacle. The pace is quiet. Bottles arrive with territory attached: Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG, Rosso del Commendator, Prosecco Treviso Extra Dry, Pinot Nero Vino Spumante Brut Rosé. The tasting room sits within a historic winery, with the landscape close enough to keep the conversation on soil, exposure, and what the Montello hills allow.

That matters in a place where the cellar is not presented as a stage set apart from agriculture. The visitor moves between a family estate, hillside vineyards, and wines named in the grammar of Veneto appellations. The craft rests in that alignment. A glass of Rosso del Commendator carries the same estate name that has been attached to Commendator Pozzobon’s work since 1969.
